HAPPY FERRETING!

Jills vs. Hobs

Some things to consider:
Jills
(girls) - must be spayed.  If she is not spayed her "vulva" will swell and if left swollen, she will begin suppression of bone marrow by their hormones or become aplastic anemic.  It is fatal for the Jills if not taken care of.
The only way to get a jill out of season is to have her bred with a intact Hob, vacestomized Hob (shoots blanks), or give her a hormone shot to bring her out of season.

Hobs (boys) - Hobs that are not neutered will have a strong odor smell that most people find unpleasant.

When should I get my ferret spayed/neutered?
Ideally the ferrets should reach their full growth at around 7 to 8 months of age before being spayed/neutered.  Jills will go into season around 5 or 6 months of age.  So you will have to consider trips to the vet or making an appointment to have your ferret bred with the V-Hob several times before spaying your Jill if you wish her to reach her full growth.  It is highly recommended that you DO NOT spay/neuter your ferrets before 16 weeks of age.
